Help Wanted!!!!!
The year 2008 starting and our venues are in
need of some maintenance. In the past it
was customary to do most of this in what was the
annual close season. However, it seems that the
majority of our clubs now fish during this part
of the year, and are unable to spare the time to
help with the tasks at hand. Please look
at your calendar and try to spare a day or two
to help with maintenance on our fisheries.
Please contact the Fisheries Committee to
co-ordinate your time and effort. |
PLEASE NOTE:
MOOR MILL - July 2005
UNFORTUNATELY THIS FISHERY IS NO LONGER UNDER
THE LAA CONTROL. |
|
Great Ouse Waters
Brampton,
May 2005
The fishery's have recently refurbished the
Bridge at the front of Brampton Lake. |
River Great Ouse
- Bluntisham === 2006
Fisheries Committee have
spent several months clearing a path along this
fishery, it is now possible to quite easily walk
the full length of the fishery along the bank.
There are possibly over 30 really good swims.
Several Clubs have since fished this water
recently and reasonable bags of fish are being
caught. |
Barford Bridge ==== 2006
A new Stile has been put at the
entrance to this fishery. |
THAMES
FISHERIES
The Fisheries Committee
visited your Thames fisheries during the closed
season. |
|
Appleford
A few swims were cleared, but the most
important improvement being the entrance
alterations.
A walkway to shorten and ease access to the
river, this will be especially beneficial during
bad weather, due to it's construction being made
of hardcore. |
Cholsey Moulsford. - 2004
Members had great difficulty accessing swims at
the far end of this fishery. This has
meant that in the past. that only the
first
part was used. What a surprise when we
visited this fishery to carry out work.
The Thames Valley Walkway has been constructed
right along the length of this fishery, on the
day we visited we were able to walk quite easily
down as far as the Railway Bridge. The
path has been completely cleared of all trees
and obstructions, and a wooden bridge was part
built at the Railway Bridge over the marshy
area.
We were informed that the path would be diverted
back to the road at this point, which could
quite possibly give us a second entrance.
(We will keep you informed regarding this.)
Perhaps if this is a venue you have not visited
recently due to access problems, now might be
good time to revisit!
|
|
South Stoke
A
new entrance gate has been erected at the start,
and slipway placed at the end of the lane. |
Gatehampton
The pathways and several swims
were cleared on this venue |
|
Bourne
End - River Thames.
All the
trees along the bank in the first meadow have
been coppiced. The bank may look a bit
bare at the moment, but when Spring growth
starts to appear the result should be plenty of
swims with just the right cover for the start of
the season. |
|
Bures
Lake === 14/02/04
On the Lake
the paths have been cut recently
and platforms have been built around the lake.
We have also introduced fish stocks to this
venue. A number of fair sized Carp
have been introduced to increase this species,
also a good quantity of silver fish namely
Roach. As everybody knows this fishery is
primarily known as a Tench water, the addition
of these fish should help turn it into a good
mixed fishery.
Bures
Lake === 2006
We have
just received a Grant Aid which will enable us
to install Disabled Swims on this Fishery.
Work should be starting soon and when this is
completed it will enable wheelchair access to
this water. |
Cholsey Moulsford. - 2006
The Pathway has now been completed
on this fishery. It is now possible to
walk from the Railway Bridge up through the farm
to the Main Road. Unfortunately there is
very little parking to be found at this point,
therefore, using this as an entrance would be
difficult. However, Members are reporting
good bags of fish from this area. |
|
Bures -
River
The
Environment Agency have introduced another batch
of 500 Barbel into the River frontage of Bures
Lake. This is the second batch of fish
placed in the river at this point. Like
the previous introduction this was part of a
total of 3000 fish spread throughout the River
Stour system, which would be from Clare down
past Glemsford and onto Bures. Some
reports of small fish being caught have already
been recorded, so previous stock fish seem to be
surviving. The third batch of fish
have now been introduced in mid January 2004,
the reports of barbel being included in bags of
fish on this river are now steadily increasing.

Leabrook
- Great River Ouse. 01/06/03
The floods
and winds in the early part of this year, have
caused problems in the Car Park. Trees had
fallen into some swims, these have now been
cleared and the swims are ready for the new
season.
The Car Park has been cleared and made bigger
and we have also replaced the chain with a gate.
This is locked, but can be opened with an
Association key. This will supply better
security for Car Parking, but its main purpose
is as a deterrent for nocturnal visitors.
Residents close by have been experiencing
problems after our Anglers leave at night.
The Police are watching the area, it is under
CCTV surveillance. To help with the
problem could you please display Car Park
Permits and keep the gate closed and
locked at all times. |
SOME OF THE FISHERIES COMMITTEE.
Will spend most of the next
three months out working on the fisheries.

Great Ouse Waters
Brampton,
23/03/03 and 30/03/03
The paths are currently being cleared on
this fishery, with help from Andy and Alison
Moore. The Barley Straw used to combat the
floating algae problem, seems to have been
successful last year. Therefore, we will
be repeating this operation this year.
Early this year strong winds caused large trees
to fall around this fishery, these have now been
cleared. We are now in the process of
building a bridge at the back of this fishery,
soon to be completed, we will then look to make
improvements to the Dam. |

Suffolk
Stour
Waters
Glemsford,
As mentioned last year, the work is still
ongoing at this fishery. All paths are being
kept clear, swims have been made, and when I
visited the fishery, plans to open a large part
of hitherto un-fished area, was still being
carried out, by way of a bridge being built out
to the islands. This is now nearing
completion and fishing in this area will soon be
available.
Well done to our lads from 'Bury St Edmunds
Railway Club', they have not needed much
help from us for these tasks. |
|
Glemsford No. 3,
R. Greer and S. Davies, two of our
local members, have been working very hard at
the above water, and many of our swims are now
clear. We have heard that many Bream and
Tench have been active in this area. |
|
Again we
should thank the following for the work above
that has been completed so far:- |
|
The two
volunteers from Brampton RAF |
|
Good Intent AS
Ken Walker
Richard Greer
Bury St. Edmunds
Railway Club |
John Sullivan
Tony Clarke
Dave Hall
Alison & Andy Moore |
|
Also those missed
from this list, but have taken part.
Thanks from the Committee goes to all that have
helped. |
|
Perhaps those who could spare a day or two
during the year and would be willing to help,
could you please contact the Fisheries
Committee.
Please let us know, we always need your help.
If you have any ideas regarding your favourite
fishery, and would like to get involved, please
