DETAILED HISTORY
& ACHIEVEMENTS. |
The Association drew its membership in the main
from within the ‘City
of London’
and is one of the few bodies allowed to
use the same coat of arms of the corporation
displayed on its badges and banners.
|
 |
|
From the time this privilege was endowed on the
Association the coat of arms has been used. The
Association has, since 1884, provided angling
venues for its members, these being spread
throughout the ‘South
of England.’ To learn about our

Membership is open to any club, society or
individual wishing to join and by doing so
members paying the required fee can make use of
our vast amount of venues open to them. Just
take a look at the venues and areas we cover
and you realise that you do not have to live in
London to take advantage. (See
Day Ticket Waters
and also Fishery
Lists). Our Competition Calendar
includes a ‘Challenge
Shield Competition’ these are
knockout team matches to find the champion club
of the Association. Size Limits were dropped
some years ago and now all our other matches
are open to members and are fished ‘all
in’ these being on the Thames, Great
Ouse and our Canals. All these are open to
Members. To find out more visit the the
Competitions Page
for your relevant entry forms. |

As with the founders of the Association, we are
also always keen to look at conservation issues
and many of our properties double as
conservation sites on which many wild animals,
rare plants, flowers and grasses along with
insects and birds are encouraged to populate
our rivers and lakes.
‘English
Nature' in the year 2000/01 has
acknowledged our efforts by awarding the
Association with a coveted certificate of merit
for maintaining and improving
‘Portholme Meadow,' this site is
already designated as a S.S.S.I. award that
acknowledges our outstanding achievements and
effort preserving the traditional habitat on
the meadow. |
|
Our committee members also maintain a good
representation on, and are also in many cases
founder members of numerous angling bodies
interested and concerned with conservation of
fish, and the improvement of water quality.
These not only benefit angling, but all forms
of wild life and there habitats close to the
water. |
