| Near Salisbury in Wiltshire all the Avon venues are fast chalk stream fisheries the ground is prone to being waterlogged and walking the bank can prove difficult but these are excellent winter fisheries and produce fish to specimen sizes. Roach have been caught up to 3lbs and fish close to 2lbs are not uncommon when they are targeted big pieces of flake being the favoured bait. Other fish worth trying for are the barbel with fish over 10lb , chub reaching and even passing the 7lb plus quality dace, perch and pike also one fish that is fast disappearing from many rivers the grayling. | |
